  • ICONIC21 adds Face Down Double Down to selected Blackjack titles.
  • The doubled card can stay hidden until the dealer completes their hand.
  • Rules and maths stay unchanged, with only the reveal timing altered.

ICONIC21 has given Blackjack players a second way to double, letting them keep the extra card face down until the dealer finishes. Face Down Double Down went live on 6 October in selected titles, including 7-Seater Blackjack and Private Blackjack.

Same bet, later reveal

After the initial deal, players who choose to double are now offered two options. Double Face Up follows the standard double and reveals the additional card straight away.

Double Face Down keeps that card hidden until the dealer has completed their hand. The result of the doubled hand stays unknown until the end of the round.

The wager works the same way in both cases. The player doubles the original bet and receives one extra card. Only the moment of the reveal changes.

The mechanic takes its cue from a land-based Blackjack practice, in which a doubled card can be dealt face down. On the casino floor, that keeps the outcome uncertain until the final reveal, and ICONIC21 has now carried the habit over to its online tables.

Andrii Savyntsev, product owner team lead at ICONIC21, said:

“Blackjack players already understand when and why they double. Face Down Double Down doesn’t change the mathematics or the rules of the game. What it changes is the experience. By delaying the reveal, a Face Down Double turns the doubled hand into a moment of suspense that lasts until the dealer has finished.”

Familiar by design

Because the betting mechanics and gameplay are untouched, ICONIC21 says the feature needs little extra explanation for Blackjack players.

For operators, the pitch is a differentiated Blackjack table that adds anticipation without altering the core game. The feature can be integrated through existing platform connections, according to the company.

The approach tracks closely with Savyntsev’s own thinking. In a September column for iGaming Republic, Savyntsev argued that the hardest part of game design is knowing which elements of a familiar game to leave alone.

In Blackjack, he wrote, that untouchable core is the player’s decision to hit, stand, split or double. ICONIC21 applied the principle in Gravity Blackjack, isolating the multiplier to side bets so the main hand stays exactly as players expect.

Face Down Double Down goes a step further. It touches one of those core decisions directly, yet leaves the rules and mathematics of the double unchanged.

Blackjack keeps evolving

The launch adds to a run of Blackjack development at the supplier. Chief product officer Edvardas Sadovskis recently explained how an AI dealer is giving RNG tables a new personality through iDealer Blackjack.

That project added an AI-powered dealer to automated play. Face Down Double Down moves in the opposite direction, taking a habit from physical tables and building it into the digital format.

ICONIC21 describes the feature as part of an ongoing focus on evolving classic casino content, balancing familiarity with fresh player experiences.

Activity elsewhere in the business has been steady. In September, the provider opened its Mythic Link series with Monkey King and confirmed plans for more than 350 roles in Vilnius.

The feature is live now in selected Blackjack titles, and ICONIC21 has not said whether more tables will follow. Operators can integrate it through their existing connections. A wider rollout would put the slower reveal across more of the supplier’s Blackjack portfolio.
