Midnite has appointed Dale Tang as general manager for Canada, putting the FanDuel veteran in charge of the British challenger operator’s launch into the market.

Tang joins after five years at FanDuel, where he began by directing the operator’s Canadian commercial arm and went on to become senior director of Canada commercial, analytics and retention, a post he held for seven months.

FanDuel to Midnite

Tang spent his entire five-year FanDuel career within the operator’s Canada-facing business. He started as director of its Canadian commercial arm, a role in which he was responsible for leading FanDuel’s entry into the country.

Before joining FanDuel, Tang spent three and a half years at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), holding posts including director of strategy development.

His departure comes as FanDuel itself goes through a period of change. Flutter Entertainment replaced chief executive Amy Howe with company president Christian Genetski in May, and the operator has since cut hundreds of jobs as its US business restructures.

FanDuel’s Canadian operation has continued to expand regardless, having launched in Alberta in July, its first major Canadian market entry since Ontario in 2022.

Confirming the move

Tang confirmed his departure from FanDuel and new role at Midnite in a LinkedIn post.

Dale Tang said:

“Five years ago, I had the chance to join FanDuel Canada in its earliest days. Along the way, I learned from exceptional leaders and incredible peers – and most importantly, had the chance to build an amazing team I got to work alongside every day. Will always be rooting for every one of you!”

He continued:

“It’s been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career, which made this decision anything but easy. But the chance to build something new in Canada doesn’t come around often – so I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Midnite to lead its launch into the Canadian market.”

Alberta’s crowded market

Tang’s arrival gives Midnite direct experience of a Canadian market that has drawn a wave of new entrants this year. Alberta’s regulated iGaming sector opened in July, with FanDuel among more than a dozen operators approved to launch on day one.

Betty Canada entered Alberta the same month, while reporting 113% year-over-year revenue growth, and Entain secured licences to bring Sports Interaction and PartyCasino into the market too.

Midnite itself has spent the past year building financial and operational muscle in Britain. The operator closed a $100 million credit facility in October to fund UK growth, followed by a further $35 million Series C round in January.

The operator has recently appointed Sam Talbot as vice president of product to lead its push toward tier-one status. It has also backed its brand with sponsorships of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough.

Whichever province Midnite enters first, Ontario or Alberta, it will compete against operators already holding months of Canadian trading data and established local marketing spend.

Tang’s experience of both FanDuel’s early Canadian build-out and its more recent, larger-scale operation gives Midnite a direct read on how the operator plans to close that gap.
