Midnite, the UK sportsbook and casino operator, has appointed Sam Talbot as Vice President of Product as it strengthens its leadership team and accelerates its product-led growth strategy.
The move comes as the company pursues tier-1 operator status in global markets following substantial recent investment.
Extensive product leadership experience
Talbot brings over 15 years of experience in product leadership across digital and consumer-facing platforms. He joins from LiveScore Group, where he served as Chief Product Officer and led product strategy and development across high-traffic sports and entertainment products, driving engagement and growth.
His track record includes scaling product teams, defining strategic roadmaps, and building innovative user-centric solutions across media, sports, and iGaming industries.
The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Midnite following its recent $35 million Series C funding round led by The Raine Group, which took total funding beyond $75 million.
Product strategy drives expansion
The Series C investment is being deployed to scale operations, accelerate development of best-in-class products, and support international expansion. A key focus is expanding Midnite’s product and engineering capabilities as it pursues its ambition of becoming a tier-1 operator in the competitive UK market.
Midnite develops its entire platform in-house, with all engineering teams based in the UK. This approach enables rapid innovation and a deeply customer-centric product strategy, which has underpinned the company’s rapid growth and challenger brand positioning. The proprietary technology stack allows Midnite to iterate faster than competitors reliant on third-party platforms.
Leadership vision for growth
Nick Wright, Co-Founder of Midnite, said:
“Midnite is product obsessed, so bringing Sam on board as VP of Product felt like a completely natural fit. He shares our DNA when it comes to building for players first, and he brings the leadership and experience we need as we scale.
“Our vision is to become a tier-1, market-leading, product-led operator, and that means continuing to raise the bar for what the betting and gaming experience should feel like. Sam will play a central role in shaping that future. With the backing we’ve secured and the team we’re building, there’s a huge amount to come from Midnite this year.”
Sam Talbot added:
“Midnite’s commitment to in-house technology and genuine product innovation really stood out to me. This is a team that cares deeply about the player experience and moves quickly to deliver it. I’m excited to be joining at such an important stage of growth and to help build products that set new standards in the industry.”
Rapid growth and expansion
Midnite’s sportsbook was launched in 2018 by Nick Wright and Daniel Qu, who previously created daily fantasy sports platform Dribble in partnership with Sky Bet.
The company added horse racing and casino to the product mix in 2023 and has since embarked on an explosive stage of growth, expanding its team to 150 employees.
The operator has been actively building its market presence through strategic initiatives. These include expanding its content partnerships with leading game providers and securing high-profile sports sponsorships to enhance brand visibility.
Strong financial backing
Backed by leading investors including The Raine Group, Discerning Capital, Makers Fund and Play Ventures, Midnite has raised more than $75 million in equity funding. The company also secured a $100 million credit facility earlier in 2025 to fund marketing initiatives and further business growth.
Midnite is licensed and regulated by the Great Britain Gambling Commission and the Irish Revenue Commissioner, ensuring compliance with UK gambling regulations as it scales operations.
Industry implications
The appointment reflects a broader trend in the iGaming industry where operators are prioritising product leadership and in-house technology development to differentiate themselves in crowded markets. By maintaining full control over its technology stack and product development, Midnite aims to deliver unique player experiences that set it apart from established tier-1 operators.
Talbot’s experience scaling product teams at LiveScore Group positions him well to guide Midnite through its next phase of growth. His focus will be on maintaining the company’s player-first approach whilst building the infrastructure and capabilities needed to compete with the UK market’s largest operators.
With substantial new investment, an expanding leadership team, and a clear product-led strategy, Midnite is focused on closing the gap with tier-1 operators through product excellence and innovation.
