FanDuel, part of Flutter Entertainment and which describes itself as North America’s #1 Casino and Sportsbook, launched its app in Alberta on July 13.
The operator went live alongside DraftKings, bet365, BetMGM and Caesars as the province opened its regulated iGaming market to private companies for the first time.
Dale Hooper, General Manager, FanDuel Canada, said:
“Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for FanDuel Canada, and we’re thrilled to bring our industry-leading Casino and Sportsbook experience to players across the province. As we enter this new market, we’re committed to delivering a best-in-class entertainment experience and meaningful community engagement remains at the heart of everything we do.”
Giving back
FanDuel paired the launch with two donations. It is giving C$50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation, which helps bridge funding gaps for frontline mental health programs in Alberta. The operator has now contributed C$150,000 to the charity across Ontario and Alberta over three years.
A further C$30,000 goes to the Canadian Red Cross’ Emergency Management Program in Alberta, supporting disaster preparedness and recovery efforts across the province.
Partnership plays
FanDuel renewed its multi-year partnership with the Canadian Football League, extending its involvement beyond Ontario into Alberta for the first time and adding casino as a new sponsorship category.
The operator also announced an exclusive deal with supplier Light & Wonder to bring the popular Huff N’ Puff slot franchise to FanDuel Canada customers in Alberta for the first four months after launch.
FanDuel Canada remains title sponsor of the Cowboys Stampede Showdown Charity Poker Tournament, supporting the Calgary Stampede Foundation. The event has raised over C$1.3 million for the foundation to date, including a record C$260,000 in 2026.
Full house
FanDuel confirmed details of the launch in a statement, noting that players 18 and over can now download the Casino and Sportsbook app, which includes casino and sports-betting educational resources alongside responsible-gambling tools.
Alberta’s July 13 opening brought several major North American brands online in the same day-one wave. Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally has projected C$76 million in government proceeds during the market’s first year.
DraftKings and bet365 both went live with sportsbook and casino products, while BetMGM launched with its casino and sports-betting offering and Caesars debuted three separate brands: Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online and Horseshoe Online Casino.
Supplier Pragmatic Play also certified its content for the province and was ready on opening day.
FanDuel enters the province with four years of experience in Ontario, Canada’s only other regulated iGaming market, having operated there since April 2022.
With FanDuel now competing against DraftKings, bet365, BetMGM and Caesars from day one, and the FIFA World Cup final landing just days after launch, early promotional spend and player acquisition across these brands will offer a fast read on how quickly Alberta’s handle scales toward Ontario-level volumes.
