Betway has been named Formula 1’s first Official Betting Operator, marking a milestone for both the motorsport series and the sports betting industry. The multi-year partnership was announced on 5 March 2026, ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne on 6-8 March.
A new dimension for F1 engagement
The deal covers key markets including Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Canada, and Mexico. It will leverage ALT Sports Data’s role as Formula 1’s Official Betting Data Supplier, feeding real-time predictive analytics drawn from the series’ extensive data ecosystem into Betway’s betting products.
Eligible users aged 18 and over will be able to place in-play bets on a range of strategic elements during race weekends. These include safety car deployments, pit stop windows, and on-track battles between drivers and teams.
The 2026 season features 24 races and arrives with significant changes. The grid has expanded to 11 teams following the entry of Cadillac, and new engine and chassis regulations have been introduced.
Jonny Haworth, director of commercial partnerships at Formula 1, said:
“Sports betting is now a natural extension of how many modern fans engage with live events. As a series with vast and complex data sets, our innovative partnership with Betway allows our adult fans to take a step closer to the strategy and action that makes it so thrilling.”
Neal Menashe, CEO of Super Group, Betway’s parent company, said:
“We are thrilled to sign our Betway sportsbook brand to the first deal of its kind in Formula 1. This partnership reinforces our commitment to sport at the highest level and will ensure our customers have access to some of the most innovative markets during race weekends.”
Betway’s growing sports portfolio
Betway, headquartered in Malta, is part of Super Group, a holding company that also operates online casino brand Spin. The operator has built an extensive sports sponsorship portfolio in recent years, with partnerships spanning football, boxing, cricket, and esports.
Securing the first official betting operator designation with Formula 1 positions Betway alongside other commercial partners that have helped shape the sport’s expanding commercial ecosystem.
Allwyn, the Czech-headquartered lottery and gaming giant, already holds a partnership with both the McLaren team and Formula 1 at the organisational level. The Stake F1 Team remains the most visible example of a betting brand sponsorship.
Implications for the betting market
Formula 1’s data-rich environment presents a distinct opportunity for betting operators. Unlike team sports, where outcomes hinge on collective performance, F1 races generate continuous micro-events — tyre strategy calls, pit window timing, weather-influenced decisions — that lend themselves to granular live betting markets.
The partnership with ALT Sports Data ensures that odds and market offerings are derived from official, validated sources rather than third-party approximations. This gives Betway an edge in market accuracy and product depth during race weekends.
The deal signals that Formula 1 is ready to formalise its relationship with sports betting in a way it had previously approached cautiously. The sport’s global footprint, affluent fan base, and data infrastructure make it one of the most attractive untapped properties for operators seeking new audiences beyond traditional team sports.
With the Melbourne Grand Prix marking the start of the 2026 campaign, both Betway and Formula 1 will be closely watched to see how betting integration shapes the fan experience across what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory.
