  • Midnite has launched its first UK-wide brand campaign, titled “Built Different,” developed with 72andSunny Amsterdam.
  • The campaign departs from typical sports betting advertising by tapping into a distinctly British cultural trait: stoic tolerance of everyday frustrations.
  • Creative runs across TV, radio, social media and out-of-home channels.

London-based UK challenger sportsbook and casino operator Midnite has launched its first UK-wide brand campaign in partnership with 72andSunny Amsterdam.

Unveiled on 24 April, “Built Different” marks the agency’s first major output since winning the Midnite account in 2025.

A different creative approach

Rather than anchoring the campaign around sporting moments, the standard template for betting advertising, Midnite and 72andSunny have built the concept around a recognisably British behavioural trait: the tendency to silently absorb daily frustrations without complaint.

The creative follows two characters through a series of mundane tech failures. Unresponsive card barriers, malfunctioning smart sinks and vending machines that fail to dispense feature throughout. Their outward composure masks inner irritation, visualised through a subtle, sci-fi-inspired pulsing vein on the forehead.

The proposition is straightforward: Midnite cannot fix everyday technology, but its own app works as it should.

Patrik Lenhart, Group Creative Director of 72andSunny Amsterdam, said:

“This is a category that’s been built on repetition and familiarity for years. Our ambition was to break that pattern and create something that genuinely stands apart. Work that feels fresh, distinctive, and hard to ignore.”

Hollie Loxley, Managing Director of 72andSunny Amsterdam, said:

“From day one, we wanted to help Midnite show up in a way that genuinely feels different to the category. This is a brand that’s built on challenging the norms, the work had to do the same, tapping into a very real human truth and expressing it in a way that’s unexpected, entertaining, and unmistakably Midnite.”

Platform for growth

For Midnite, the campaign is positioned as more than a one-off creative execution. The “Built Different” platform is intended to underpin the brand’s broader push toward the top tier of the UK market, a stated ambition the operator has been building towards through a series of major capital raises, including a $35m Series C funding round in 2026 and a $100m credit facility secured in late 2025.

Jonathan Shaw, VP, Growth at Midnite, said:

“Built Different is more than a campaign – it’s the platform for where we’re going as a business. We’ve built Midnite from the ground up to challenge a category that hasn’t kept up, and this is how we begin to show that at scale.

“This campaign is about setting a new standard and building the kind of brand that can take us into the top tier of the UK iGaming category. It still feels like day one, but everything we’re doing is focused on earning our place there. 72andSunny have been instrumental in bringing that ambition to life.”

Andrew Mook, Head of Brand Marketing at Midnite, said:

“With Built Different, we set out to do something that cuts through – at scale. The challenge is to produce something that doesn’t feel the same as every other brand and create something that people genuinely remember.

“We’ve focused on the brilliant basics – making sure everything we put into market is clearly attributable to Midnite and built for memory. That means distinctive creative, consistent brand cues and a strong sonic identity that cuts through. In a category dominated by sameness, that’s what gives you a real advantage.”

Challenger brand strategy

The launch arrives at a moment of heightened scrutiny for UK gambling advertising.

Unlicensed operators are projected to outpace licensed ad spend in the current cycle, according to recent WARC analysis. That dynamic may increase pressure on regulated brands to demonstrate distinctive, memorable creative rather than compete on volume alone.

For Midnite, investment in a coherent brand platform signals a deliberate shift from performance-led acquisition towards longer-term brand equity. The company’s appointment of Sam Talbot as Vice President of Product in February 2026 points to a broader operational build-out supporting that ambition.

How effectively “Built Different” translates cultural resonance into customer acquisition will be closely watched by competitors navigating the same congested UK marketplace.
