FanDuel, which describes itself as North America’s #1 Casino and Sportsbook, plans to launch in Alberta on July 13, pending regulatory approval.

The Flutter Entertainment-owned operator is pairing the expansion with new community donations, a renewed Canadian Football League partnership and an exclusive supply deal with Light & Wonder.

Second Canadian market

Alberta becomes FanDuel’s second regulated Canadian market after Ontario, where the operator has been live since April 2022. Alberta residents aged 18 and over can now pre-register for an account ahead of launch day.

FanDuel joins a fast-growing field of operators preparing for day one, including DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook and bet365. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) had registered 28 operators by May, a list that had grown to 47 by late June.

The rollout follows tightened advertising rules that came into force ahead of launch.

The Alberta entry also lands weeks after Flutter Entertainment reported first-quarter 2026 results for FanDuel’s US operations, which generated $1.8 billion in revenue, up 6% year-on-year, with sportsbook revenue of $1.1 billion and iGaming revenue of $564 million, up 19%.

Market size and suppliers

Alberta’s government projects the newly regulated market will generate roughly CAD $76 million in tax revenue during its first year, Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally has said.

Under the structure, 2% of gross gaming revenue goes to First Nations funding and 1% to responsible gambling programmes, before the remaining net revenue is split 80% to operators and 20% to the province. Government estimates suggest unregulated platforms currently capture around 70% of Alberta’s iGaming activity.

The launch is not limited to consumer-facing operators. AGLC has also registered 22 Critical Gaming Service Providers, 8 platform providers and 11 goods and services suppliers to support the market, with technology firms IGT and Light & Wonder among those cleared to provide platform and content infrastructure.

Community investment plans

FanDuel is donating $50,000 to the A Dollar A Day Foundation to support frontline mental health programmes in Alberta. The company said it has contributed $150,000 to the foundation over three years across Ontario and Alberta combined.

A further $30,000 will go to the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Management Program in Alberta, intended to help communities prepare for and recover from disasters.

Dale Hooper, General Manager, FanDuel Canada, said:

“Alberta represents an exciting new chapter for FanDuel Canada, and we look forward to the opportunity to bring our industry-leading Casino and Sportsbook experience to players across the province. As we plan to enter this new market, we’re committed to delivering a best-in-class entertainment experience and meaningful community engagement remains at the heart of everything we do.”

Sports and content deals

FanDuel has renewed its multi-year partnership with the Canadian Football League, expanding coverage beyond Ontario to include Alberta and adding casino products as a new sponsorship category for the first time. The 113th Grey Cup is scheduled for November 15 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

On the product side, FanDuel Canada struck an exclusive partnership with supplier Light & Wonder to bring the Huff N’ Puff slot franchise to Alberta players, subject to regulatory approval.

The operator also remains title sponsor of the Cowboys Stampede Showdown Charity Poker Tournament, which raised $260,000 for the Calgary Stampede Foundation this year, taking its cumulative total past $1.3 million since launch.

FanDuel’s Alberta spending suggests it wants to build a lasting presence there, not just grab early headlines. Whether that pays off depends on how quickly Alberta bettors switch from unregulated sites once the regulated market opens.
