Fanatics Betting & Gaming has received a two-year internet gaming operator registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, tied to its Fanatics Casino gaming site.

The registration, issued Tuesday, moves the company closer to Ontario’s regulated market, its first outside the United States. A commercial agreement with iGaming Ontario, plus any remaining onboarding requirements, still stands between registration and an actual launch.

What the registration covers

An AGCO registration confirms Fanatics has cleared the regulator’s suitability, financial and compliance review, the standard gate before an operator can move toward launch.

The gaming site named on the registration is Fanatics Casino; Ontario allows a single registered site to carry both casino and sportsbook products, so a Fanatics Sportsbook rollout alongside it remains possible but hasn’t been confirmed.

Fanatics hasn’t said which products it plans to bring to Ontario. A company spokesperson told Casino.org that further launch details will follow in the coming weeks.

A late, familiar entrant

Fanatics Sportsbook operates online in 23 U.S. states plus Washington, D.C. Fanatics Casino runs in four. Fanatics announced its acquisition of PointsBet’s U.S. operations in 2023 and closed the final state, Illinois, in April 2024, absorbing PointsBet’s licenses and platform into its own stack.

Ontario would be Fanatics’ first market outside the U.S. The company hasn’t applied to enter Alberta, which opened to private operators last month, and Canadian Gaming Business reported this week that Fanatics isn’t currently listed as an AGLC registrant.

Room to grow, or none left

Fanatics arrives behind Hard Rock Bet and DAZN Bet, both of which launched in Ontario within the past six months. iGaming Ontario’s operator directory lists 48 operators running 83 gaming websites.

The province generated more than $4.2 billion in gaming revenue from over $103 billion in wagering during its fourth year of regulated play, covering April 2025 through March 2026, per unaudited iGaming Ontario figures. A companion Ipsos study found 91.1% of surveyed online gamblers used regulated sites, up 7.4 percentage points from 83.7% a year earlier.

Those numbers cut two ways for a new entrant: less unregulated share to fight for, but a player base that already has an app and a loyalty history elsewhere.

Amanda Brewer, senior vice president of policy and communications at the Canadian Gaming Association, told Casino.org that differentiation now hinges on execution and retention rather than acquisition, given how similar operators’ game libraries and rules have become. On operators betting they’ve found an edge, Brewer told the outlet:

“If a new operator believes they have a secret sauce no one else has thought of, I wish them the best of luck!”

Agreement is the next hurdle

No launch date is confirmed. The iGaming Ontario commercial agreement is the next publicly known step, though Fanatics’ remaining technical and compliance timeline hasn’t been disclosed. Until that agreement is signed, Ontario residents can’t access Fanatics Casino through the regulated market.

How that process resolves, and how Fanatics positions itself against entrenched names like FanDuel, DraftKings and bet365, will determine whether the registration translates into meaningful share in Canada’s most competitive regulated market.
