Sportradar has named Sameer Deen as its new chief operating officer, effective 18 May 2026. Deen joins from Entain, where he spent nearly three years as group chief commercial officer and president, bringing more than 25 years of experience across sports betting, media, and digital commerce.
A high-profile hire
Deen joined Entain in June 2021 as chief strategy officer and president of new ventures before being promoted to group chief commercial officer and president in December 2023. Prior to that, he spent over six years at Univision Communications, rising from senior vice-president of digital to chief digital officer by 2018. He has also held senior roles at Scripps Networks Interactive and founded the restaurant reservation platform CityEats.
In his new role, Deen will oversee commercial and group operations and work closely with the executive leadership team on strategy and growth. The appointment comes as Sportradar expands its retail partnership with Betfred and signs a new Hard Rock Bet deal covering golf and UFC data.
CEO Carsten Koerl said:
“We are thrilled to have Sameer join our executive team at such a transformative time for our industry. With his expertise in sports betting and digital media, combined with a proven ability to scale businesses and build top-performing teams, he is well-positioned to drive and optimise our commercial operations and partnerships forward.”
Deen said he is excited to join Sportradar, highlighting the company’s position at the intersection of sports, technology, and user experience.
“Sportradar sits at the dynamic intersection of sports, technology, and user experiences — areas where I’ve built my career and passion. Their relentless focus on innovation and the incredible team they’ve built have been instrumental in delivering unparalleled experiences for fans while optimising clients’ business performance. I’m looking forward to working with Carsten and the team in writing Sportradar’s next chapter, helping sportsbooks navigate and grow within the evolving sports product landscape.”
Company context
The appointment comes during a volatile period for Sportradar. The company’s shares fell over 22% on 22 April after short sellers Muddy Waters and Callisto Research published allegations of exposure to illegal markets. CEO Carsten Koerl has rejected the claims as unfounded and damaging to shareholder value, stating the company operates within licensed markets.
Sportradar also faces dual lawsuits from software provider Altenar in the UK and US over access to live official sports data.
Despite this, the company reported Q1 2026 revenue of €347 million, up 11% year-on-year, and announced a $250 million share repurchase programme. It also recently extended its FIFA integrity monitoring partnership to 2031 ahead of the World Cup.
Deen’s appointment is expected to strengthen Sportradar’s commercial operations and client relationships across the global sports betting and media ecosystem.
