Hugo Baungartner has stepped down as chief business officer at Grupo Esportes Gaming Brasil (EGB), the holding group behind Esportes da Sorte, Onabet, and Lottu.
He confirmed his departure on LinkedIn earlier today, June 26, 2026, 13 months after taking on the role.
Mandate in Brazil complete
Baungartner joined EGB in May 2025 as executive director of institutional relations and strategic partnerships, operating alongside the title of chief business officer.
His appointment coincided with a pivotal moment in Brazil’s regulated betting market, as operators worked to align with the licensing framework introduced under Law 14,790/2023.
His brief centered on institutional engagement with the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA/MF), the Federal Revenue Service, the Central Bank of Brazil, and COAF. He also led the evaluation of merger and acquisition opportunities and oversaw the development of strategic partnerships with international providers.
The group has moved aggressively to build market presence since regulation took effect. EGB owns the Esportes da Sorte and Onabet brands, and has since added Lottu as a third digital platform.
Esportes da Sorte renewed its master sponsorship with Corinthians through 2029 and launched a national TV campaign earlier this year as the group pushed deeper into mainstream Brazilian culture.
Baungartner reflects on tenure
Hugo Baungartner, former chief business officer at Grupo Esportes Gaming Brasil, said:
“After 13 incredible months, my time at Esportes Gaming Brasil draws to a close. It has been a place where I felt truly welcome and at home, and I’m proud of everything we achieved together.
“A big thank you to Marcela Campos and Darwin Filho for creating a culture of generosity, ambition and hard work that made EGB feel special from day one.”
He added that he is leaving the group in a great position and is grateful to have worked with a such a talented team.
Before EGB, Baungartner served as CCO at Grupo Aposta Ganha, where he played a central role in the company securing one of Brazil’s first full sports betting licenses under the new regime.
He brought nearly three decades of experience in gaming and technology to the role, having previously held senior positions at companies including RCT Gaming, Salsa Technology, and Yolo Group.
Succession and future plans
EGB has not announced a replacement for Baungartner’s position. The group’s CEO, Darwin Filho, and vice president, Marcela Campos, have not commented separately on the leadership transition.
Baungartner’s next move remains undisclosed. His LinkedIn post indicated details would follow shortly, without specifying a timeline.
Brazil’s licensed betting framework is still developing, with unresolved questions around advertising rules and market structure continuing to demand close attention from operators, with President Lula actively targeting the betting industry in his reelection campaign.
