  • DraftKings launched its online sportsbook in Puerto Rico yesterday (February 23) with access restricted to island residents only.

DraftKings Inc. (Nasdaq: DKNG) has officially launched its online sportsbook in Puerto Rico, giving residents of the US territory access to mobile sports wagering for the first time through the operator. The February 23 rollout follows the opening of a retail sportsbook at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino in November 2025.

The Boston-based operator confirmed that the online product is exclusively available to Puerto Rico residents. Non-residents visiting the island are not eligible for the mobile product. They may, however, place wagers in person at the DraftKings retail location inside Foxwoods El San Juan Casino.

Registration requires a casino visit

A notable feature of the launch is its hybrid onboarding requirement. Eligible new customers must register in person at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino before they can access the online sportsbook from elsewhere on the island. Once registered on-site, customers gain full access to the platform’s features. These include same-game parlays, in-game wagering, and special odds boosts across leagues including the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

Gregory Karamitis, DraftKings Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports, commented on the launch:

“Puerto Rico has a passionate sports community and launching our online sportsbook allows us to meet fans where they are,” Karamitis said.

“With retail already live at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, mobile represents the next step in expanding the DraftKings experience across the island—giving eligible local customers a seamless, exciting, and responsible way to engage with sports.”

The launch is a collaboration involving DraftKings, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and Foxwoods El San Juan Casino. Responsible gaming tools, including My Budget Builder and My Stat Sheet, are available through the DraftKings Responsible Gaming Center.

A crowded market taking shape

Puerto Rico legalized sports betting in 2019 in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). The territory governs its own gaming regulations.

BetMGM, Caesars, and FanDuel were the first major US operators to enter the Puerto Rico market online, with FanDuel launching through a mobile and retail partnership with CAGE Puerto Rico shortly before DraftKings’ arrival.

DraftKings’ mobile go-live now means Puerto Rico residents have four major US-based sportsbook options for online wagering. Online casino gaming remains prohibited in the territory. DraftKings currently holds the second-largest market share in the US sports betting sector, trailing FanDuel.

Spanish-language capability adds local context

The Puerto Rico launch comes months after DraftKings rolled out a Spanish-language experience across its sportsbook and casino app in November 2025. Spanish is one of two official languages in Puerto Rico and is the predominant language used by residents.

The move also complements DraftKings’ deal securing exclusive sports betting rights across NBCUniversal’s sports portfolio, which includes Telemundo’s Spanish-language World Cup coverage.

The Spanish-language product was initially made available to select existing US customers before expanding more broadly. It covers account onboarding, navigation, betting content, gameplay, promotions, and customer support.

DraftKings operates mobile and/or retail sports betting across approximately 26 US states, Washington D.C., Ontario (Canada), and now Puerto Rico through its online product.

The company’s recent ESPN partnership and NBCUniversal deal have expanded its media footprint considerably. The company does not yet offer iGaming in Puerto Rico, where online casino regulations remain absent.

Looking ahead

The Puerto Rico online launch forms part of a broader strategic push by DraftKings to grow its addressable market beyond its existing US state footprint. The territory’s self-governing regulatory framework and Spanish-speaking majority make it an instructive test case for operators eyeing expansion in other Spanish-language markets.

With FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings all now active online in Puerto Rico, competition on the island is intensifying. Operators will likely look to differentiate through localized product features, promotions, and customer support as the market matures.
