DAZN Bet has launched its online sportsbook and casino in Ontario, marking the sports streaming giant’s first entry into the North American gambling market.
The operator went live on Tuesday, June 30, joining a regulated market that has expanded steadily since 2022.
DAZN Bet already operates across several European markets, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France. Ontario marks its first Canadian market, following the Ontario gaming registration DAZN secured back in January.
A maturing market
Ontario’s regulated iGaming sector has grown quickly since launching on April 4, 2022. Licensed operators handled roughly $98.3 billion in total wagers during 2025, a 26% increase from the prior year, according to iGaming Ontario.
Combined operator revenue reached $4.0 billion for the year. Cumulative revenue has now topped $10.2 billion since launch, with online casino products driving most of that activity.
DAZN Bet’s arrival brings the province to 48 licensed operators running 82 sports betting and casino sites, excluding the government-owned Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. That competitive backdrop makes the entry notable in a market that keeps attracting new brands despite its maturity.
Executives outline strategy
Valery Gelfman, CEO of DAZN Bet, framed the launch as part of the brand’s long-term Canadian ambitions.
“Canada is a market that values integrity and responsible play and we are entering Ontario with a product that is designed for long term sustainability. We are committed to operating with a local mindset and a customer-centric approach.”
Richard Rawlinson, managing director of Canada at DAZN Bet, echoed that framing in the same release.
“This is the beginning of a long-term commitment to the country.”
DAZN’s existing Canadian sports media presence, including NFL Game Pass and major European soccer rights, gives DAZN Bet brand recognition that newer entrants typically lack.
The company has built its European sportsbook strategy around embedding betting features into live sports streams, an approach it intends to extend to Ontario over time.
Alberta up next
Ontario will not be DAZN Bet’s only Canadian market for long. The operator has secured registration with Alberta’s gaming regulator, positioning it among the operators entering the province’s competitive market when it opens on July 13.
Alberta has moved quickly to shape that launch, recently confirming it bans public bonus ads ahead of go-live. The province’s regulator has also projected C$76 million in government proceeds during its first year of operation.
Two Canadian market entries within a matter of weeks gives DAZN Bet a compressed timeline to prove its combined sports-and-betting model against operators already operating in the region.
DAZN Bet’s Ontario launch tests whether a global sports media brand can convert existing audience trust into sustained betting activity rather than relying purely on promotional spend to acquire customers.
Average revenue per active account in Ontario reached a record CA$334 last year, a figure that rewards operators who retain players rather than simply attract them.
Alberta’s opening on July 13 will offer an early comparison point for regulators and rival operators alike, showing whether DAZN Bet’s approach translates across a second regulated market within its first month of North American operations.
