Germany’s leading sports betting and online gambling operator, Tipico, has joined the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) as its newest member. The Brussels-based trade association announced the membership last week (19 January), describing the addition as a reinforcement of its collective voice on European gambling policy.

Expanding representation across German-speaking markets

Tipico’s membership adds weight to EGBA’s position in one of Europe’s largest gambling markets. The operator, which also leads sports betting and retail slot gaming in Austria through its subsidiary ADMIRAL Austria, brings a network of over 1,250 betting shops and approximately 6,800 staff and partners in the German-speaking region to the association.

The operator will now participate in EGBA’s working groups, contributing to initiatives on responsible advertising, safer gambling standards, and anti-money laundering practices. EGBA members collectively hold 321 online gambling licences across 21 European countries and together account for approximately 30% of Europe’s online gambling gross gaming revenue.

“As a company committed to player protection and regulatory excellence, we look forward to contributing our expertise to EGBA’s important work. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to promoting high industry standards and our fight against the black market for online gambling in Europe,” said Jochen Weiner, Director Public Policy at Tipico.

EGBA welcomes a strong start to 2026

The association’s leadership welcomed the addition as a meaningful opening to the new year.

“We’re delighted to welcome Tipico to EGBA and to start 2026 with such a strong addition to our membership. As Germany’s leading online gambling operator with a strong track record, Tipico brings valuable expertise to our association and will reinforce our collective efforts to promote a well-regulated and sustainable gambling sector in Europe,” Maarten said.

“We look forward to working closely with our new colleagues on our shared commitment to high industry standards,” he concluded.

A black market battleground

Tipico’s focus on fighting black market gambling reflects a concern shared across the European industry. Unlicensed operators continue to attract players by circumventing the consumer protections, tax obligations, and responsible gambling requirements that licensed operators must observe.

EGBA has consistently advocated for stricter enforcement against unlicensed platforms and greater cooperation between national regulators.

Founded in 2004, Tipico Group now employs around 3,800 staff directly. Its network of over 1,250 shops in the German-speaking region makes it the operator of the largest betting shop network there.

The operator serves customers through a combination of retail presence and its digital platform, operating under licences across multiple European jurisdictions.
