Global online gaming operator Stake is set to launch iGaming operations in Denmark after securing a five-year licence covering both online casino and sports betting.
The licence, issued under Denmark’s regulated gambling framework, will enable Stake to offer its full casino and sportsbook portfolio to Danish players for the first time, with commercial operations confirmed to begin on 1 March 2026.
From 1 March 2026, Stake Denmark will establish its headquarters at Parken Stadium, the national stadium of Denmark and home ground of FC Copenhagen. The location signals the operator’s intent to build a visible local presence in its first Nordic market.
A mature market and a competitive landscape
Peter Eugen Clausen, Managing Director, Stake Denmark, commented:
“Denmark has one of the most well-regulated and competitive gaming markets in Europe, and that’s exactly what makes it so exciting. With Stake’s arrival, Danish players can expect a fresh, world-class experience backed by global scale and strong local focus,” said Clausen.
“We’re raising the bar in terms of product, transparency, and entertainment, and I believe increased competition from brands like Stake will only drive the market forward in a positive way.”
Denmark’s online gambling market has been regulated since 2012, when the country opened its previously state-monopolised sector to private operators. The market is licensed and supervised by Spillemyndigheden, the Danish Gambling Authority.
Licensees must meet strict player protection and responsible gambling requirements, including use of the national self-exclusion register ROFUS and compliance with advertising restrictions.
Stake confirmed that its Danish operations will include responsible gambling tools and player protection measures aligned with local regulatory requirements.
Nordic entry and wider expansion
Founded in 2017, Stake has expanded across multiple regulated and licensed markets, offering online casino games and sports betting products supported by proprietary technology developed by Easygo. Denmark is the operator’s first foray into the Nordic region, a cluster of markets known for high player engagement and strong regulation.
Brais Pena, chief strategy officer at Easygo, added:
“Denmark marks our entry into the Nordics and represents a clear win in one of Europe’s most mature and high-value markets. With each new market, our momentum continues to build as we deliver on our global expansion strategy.”
Denmark’s iGaming market is dominated by several well-established European brands. Stake’s entry adds a globally recognised operator to the mix. Clausen framed this as a positive for consumer choice, arguing that additional competition drives product quality and market standards upward.
The decision to base operations at Parken Stadium gives Stake an immediate association with Denmark’s national football culture, reinforcing the brand’s sports betting credentials locally. FC Copenhagen, one of the most successful clubs in Scandinavian football, draws a national fanbase well-suited to a sportsbook looking to build name recognition quickly.
For the broader iGaming industry, Stake’s Danish launch shows the continuing appetite among global operators for regulated European market entries. As regulatory frameworks in emerging regions continue to develop, the Nordic region remains an attractive destination — well-organised, transparent, and with a track record of sustainable licensing.
Who is Stake
Stake.com, a leading cryptocurrency-based online casino and sportsbook, was founded in 2017 by Australian entrepreneurs Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani through their company Easygo, a Melbourne-based game development studio established in 2016.
The duo, who first met as teenagers running an in-game gambling scheme on RuneScape and later launched the Bitcoin dice site Primedice in 2013, created Stake under a Curaçao eGaming licence operated by Medium Rare NV.
The platform initially focused on provably fair “Originals” games, crash betting, and crypto wagering before expanding to thousands of slots, table games, and a full sportsbook.
Today, Stake operates globally across regulated and emerging markets, with billions in annual revenue, high-profile sponsorships including UFC, Formula 1, and the Premier League, and innovations such as the Kick streaming platform co-founded by its owners.
