Online casinos drive Pennsylvania’s $582M gambling revenue, second-biggest month ever

Pennsylvania’s gambling industry posted its second-highest monthly revenue total in August, generating $582.3 million across all gaming sectors. The figure represents a 14.2% increase from August 2024 and sits just 3.2% below the all-time record of $601.8 million set in May 2025.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board‘s latest data shows online casino gaming continues to lead growth, with iGaming revenue hitting $231.2 million in August. This marked a 25.9% increase from the same period last year, with online slots contributing the largest share at $179.3 million, up 29.6% year-on-year.

Internet table games generated $49.4 million, representing a 14.4% increase, while online poker reached $2.5 million with 12.6% growth. Penn National Race Course and Hollywood Casino maintained their market-leading position with iGaming revenue of $85.5 million, an 18.5% increase from August 2024.

Valley Forge Casino Resort secured second place in the iGaming sector with $67.6 million, marking a notable 47.1% rise. Rivers Casino Philadelphia rounded out the top three operators, generating $36.6 million in online casino revenue, up 18.5% from the previous year.

Sports betting delivered particularly strong performance, with taxable revenue reaching $49.2 million, a substantial 63.8% increase from August 2024. Online betting dominated the sector, accounting for $45.4 million of the total, while retail sportsbooks contributed $3.7 million.

The overall betting handle reached $515.4 million, representing a 6.2% increase from the previous August. Players placed $490 million in online bets and $25.4 million at retail locations, with the statewide hold rate achieving 9.55% for the month.

Traditional land-based gaming showed modest growth, with retail slots revenue rising to $216.6 million, a 2.6% gain from the previous year. Revenue from retail table games saw minimal growth of 0.1%, reaching $81.1 million.

Some sectors experienced declines, with revenue from video gaming terminals at truck stop locations falling 2.4% to $4.6 million. Fantasy sports revenue increased by 2.6%, generating $664,758 for the month.

The state collected $238.5 million in taxes from all gaming activities in August. This included $103.9 million from iGaming, $14.6 million from sports betting, $105.3 million from retail slots, and $12.9 million from land-based table games.

Pennsylvania’s gaming industry continues its strong trajectory following a record-breaking fiscal year that generated $6.39 billion in total revenue. The state has positioned itself as a leader in regulated online gaming, with iGaming becoming the largest revenue source for the first time in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
