A new UK-licensed betting brand called Bet St George has launched with the aim of championing English sport and delivering enhanced markets around the nation’s biggest sporting moments. The brand is led by chairman Nic Brereton, who founded BresBet in 2021.
Filling a gap in national identity betting
Bet St George positions itself as the first UK bookmaker built entirely around an English sporting identity. The operator noted that brands in Wales and Scotland have leaned into national identity in recent years, but no operator had taken that approach specifically for England.
The brand invites bettors to “take on the Knight,” a mascot that personifies its identity. Football and horse racing will serve as the primary focus alongside a full sportsbook and casino product. England-related bets will receive clear priority across markets, specials and promotional activity.
Nic Brereton, chairman of Bet St George, said:
“When the opportunity came to launch a second brand, we asked ourselves what the real gap in the UK market was. We’ve seen operators in Wales and Scotland lean into national identity, but there wasn’t anyone truly focused on England.”
Brereton added:
“If we say we’re backing England, we mean that England events will be front and centre on our site. We’ll focus on building strong markets and specials around those moments, and we’ll take a clear position. If England wins and it costs us – that’s part of the game.”
Ahead of major English sporting events
The launch is strategically timed ahead of two major events on the English sporting calendar. The Cheltenham Festival begins on 10 March, and the FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11 June, running through to 19 July 2026.
Brereton emphasised that the brand is committed to taking bets rather than simply running promotions. If England wins and it costs the bookmaker, he described that as part of the business model.
The brand also stressed its celebration of modern England’s multicultural diversity, citing the range of backgrounds represented in national sporting teams from football to cricket.
Focus on service and willingness to lay bets
BresBet was founded in 2021 with a philosophy centred on value, service and a willingness to accept wagers. Bet St George represents the evolution of that approach under a second brand.
Brereton noted that the brand’s identity goes beyond promotional offers. The operator said it would stand behind its opinions and accept customers who want to engage with promoted markets.
For the competitive UK betting market, which faces increased cost pressures following the government’s decision to raise remote gaming duty to 40%, the launch highlights a growing trend of smaller operators seeking to differentiate through brand identity and positioning rather than trying to compete with the promotional budgets of larger rivals.
