Midnite taps TrueLayer for instant deposits
Table of contents
- Midnite has integrated TrueLayer’s Pay by Bank, enabling instant deposits and withdrawals directly from a player’s bank account.
- Players authenticate via their bank’s biometrics through an app-to-app flow, with no card details required.
- The rollout connects Midnite to TrueLayer’s network of more than 27 million users across the UK and Europe.
Midnite has switched on Pay by Bank, TrueLayer’s account-to-account payment technology, removing the card step from deposits and withdrawals for its UK players.
The rollout is live now and lets users move money straight from their bank account instead.
Cutting the card step
Typing in a 16-digit card number before kick-off is the kind of small delay that operators have spent years trying to design around. Midnite has taken that step out entirely for players who opt into Pay by Bank.
The mechanics are straightforward: a player picks Pay by Bank at the deposit or withdrawal screen, is redirected into their own banking app, and confirms the transaction with a fingerprint or face scan. Midnite and TrueLayer describe both legs of that transfer as instant, cutting out the wait associated with card-based payments.
Midnite has not published usage figures but described conversion on the new option as strong since launch, a claim it attributes to players already being comfortable with TrueLayer’s checkout flow from other services.
A ready-made network
That familiarity is the point of partnering with an established provider rather than building the rails in-house. TrueLayer, headquartered in London, puts its live network at more than 27 million users across the UK and Europe. In UK betting specifically, bet365 and William Hill already route payments through the same provider, meaning a share of Midnite’s new sign-ups may have used Pay by Bank on a rival’s site already.
Christian Huynh, Lead Product Manager at Midnite, said:
“At Midnite, we want the experience to rival the best consumer apps, and payments are no exception. Players expect money in and out to be instant and secure. TrueLayer’s Pay by Bank gives us the infrastructure to deliver that. The early results speak for themselves.”
Huynh added:
“We remain committed to providing a user experience that is unrivalled across the market, and we look forward to offering TrueLayer’s fast and reliable Pay by Bank option to our players.”
Roberto Villani, VP of iGaming at TrueLayer, said:
“iGaming is where payments get stress-tested. Players want money in and out in seconds, and operators need certainty on every transaction. That is what Pay by Bank was built to do. Midnite has built a modern platform for a new generation of players, and now their payments match it. Strong performance from day one tells you where this partnership is going.”
Building beyond odds
Payments are one of several fronts Midnite has been working on since closing a $35m Series C round in January, funding it has tied to a push for tier-1 operator status.
Founded in 2018 by Nick Wright and Daniel Qu, the operator has also spent this year buying visibility through sport, taking front-of-shirt deals with Middlesbrough and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Not every brand play has landed cleanly: the ASA ordered Midnite’s Built Different ad campaign off air earlier this month over complaints about its messaging.
TrueLayer, founded in 2016 by Francesco Simoneschi and Luca Martinetti, runs its Pay by Bank network across 22 countries. For a challenger operator still building a customer base, that scale can substitute for years of building direct bank relationships on its own.
