Kalshi tops $1 billion in monthly trading volume as platform captures majority market share
- US prediction market platform Kalshi crossed $1 billion in monthly trading volume and now commands 62.2% of global prediction market activity
- The company’s market share skyrocketed from just 3.1% a year ago, with transaction share climbing from 12.9% to 63.9%
- Platform set new daily trading record with 588,520 trades on NFL Week 2 Sunday, surpassing even 2024 US Election activity levels
Kalshi surpasses $1 billion in monthly trading volume, establishing itself as the dominant force in the global prediction markets sector.
The US-based platform reached this benchmark despite being restricted to American customers only, demonstrating its ability to capture the majority of worldwide trading activity.
According to company data compiled from publicly available metrics, Kalshi now controls 62.2% of global prediction market volume, representing a dramatic increase from the 3.1% share it held just 12 months ago. The platform’s transaction share has similarly expanded from 12.9% to 63.9% over the same period.
The growth trajectory has positioned Kalshi well ahead of its primary competitor Polymarket, with recent data showing Kalshi’s September trading volume reaching $1.3 billion compared to Polymarket’s $773 million.
This marks the first time since November 2024’s US presidential election that Kalshi has crossed the billion-dollar monthly threshold.
“It’s remarkable to see how fast the platform is growing,” said Tarek Mansour, Kalshi’s CEO.
The CEO attributed the success to the company’s focus on building products that resonate with users rather than simply chasing performance metrics.
Sports markets have emerged as a particularly strong driver of activity on the platform. Kalshi recorded 588,520 trades on the Sunday of NFL Week 2, setting a new single-day record that exceeded even the trading volumes witnessed during the 2024 US Election.
The platform’s NFL season trading has already surpassed its total volume from the entire 2024 election cycle.
Financial markets have also contributed substantially to Kalshi’s growth. The September Federal Reserve decision market generated $91 million in volume, eclipsing the combined total of the previous five Fed decision markets.
This performance demonstrates the platform’s ability to attract users across both entertainment and economic events. The company has expanded its reach through strategic partnerships with major brokerage platforms including Robinhood and Webull, with more than a dozen additional broker integrations currently in development.
Kalshi raised $185 million in a Series C funding round in June 2024, valuing the company at $2 billion and highlighting investor confidence in the prediction markets sector. The funding was led by Paradigm with participation from Sequoia Capital and other prominent investors.
The platform’s success comes despite facing legal challenges in multiple states. Authorities in Maryland, Nevada, and New Jersey have ordered Kalshi to cease operations, arguing its markets qualify as sports betting rather than prediction markets. These cases are currently proceeding through federal courts with final judgements still pending.
