Iowa sports betting revenue jumps 40% to $22.1 million in August 2025

Iowa’s sports betting market delivered robust growth in August 2025, with revenue climbing 40% year-on-year to $22.1 million, according to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The performance contributed to a broader uptick in the state’s gaming sector, which saw total revenue increase by 4.9% to $151.2 million.
Iowans wagered $181 million on sports during August, representing an 8.7% increase from the previous year. The vast majority of these wagers were placed through online sportsbooks, generating $1.48 million in state tax revenue.
The overall gaming revenue increase aligned with a 2.7% rise in casino visitors across the state. Iowa’s 19 casinos contributed more than $30 million to state and local taxes as well as endowment funds from the August revenue.
Slot machine revenue accounted for $136.7 million of the total, reflecting a 4.1% increase, whilst table games revenue jumped by 12.1% to $14.5 million. The August figures also marked a 4.3% increase from July 2025’s revenue total of $144.9 million.
“These results demonstrate the strong appeal of Iowa’s gaming industry and its capacity to generate economic benefits for local communities whilst maintaining regulatory integrity,” said Jane Miller, chairperson of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Iowa’s sports betting performance through August 2025 shows handle reaching $1.53 billion with gross revenue of $139.2 million, representing a 9.5% hold rate. The state collected $9.4 million in taxes during the first eight months of 2025 under its 6.75% revenue tax rate.
