Danske Spil hits DKK 2bn profit milestone

Danske Spil has delivered the strongest annual result in its history, posting a record profit after tax of DKK 2bn for the 2025 financial year. The results, reported on 13 March 2026, confirm the Danish state-owned operator’s commercial resilience despite growing pressure from international competitors.
Gross gaming income reached DKK 5.158bn for the year, coming in above the midpoint of the DKK 5.0bn–5.2bn guidance range communicated at the start of 2025. The top line was slightly down from DKK 5.256bn in 2024, reflecting the record profit’s dependence on cost discipline and mix rather than revenue growth.
Lottery anchors result
Lottery products remained the primary revenue engine. A major uplift came in December 2025, when a Danish player won DKK 149m in the Eurojackpot, generating significant engagement across the operator’s distribution channels.
Seasonal products also exceeded expectations. Sales of holiday-themed lines, including Jule Lotto and Quick Christmas products, rose 24% year-on-year, with the category posting record turnover.
Around 1.9 million Danes engaged with Danske Spil products in 2025, showing the operator’s enduring domestic reach even as its share of the commercial market has declined significantly since liberalisation in 2012 in the face of competition from private licensed operators.
Lars Krarup, Chairman of Danske Spil, said:
“Every year, we entertain 1.9 million Danes in a safe environment, and when we succeed as a business, the profits benefit the community. In 2025, we will send DKK 1.8 billion to the community through distribution funds – money that makes a real difference to sports, culture and volunteering throughout the country.”
Community contributions
Total contributions to Danish society, covering taxes, dividends, and public funding allocations, reached DKK 3.148bn in 2025. Of that, approximately DKK 1.787bn was directed to distribution funds supporting sports, culture, volunteer organisations, and social initiatives across Denmark.
On responsible gambling, Danske Spil reported tangible progress. Targeted measures aimed at players under 25 contributed to a reduction in average online gambling spend within that age group, which fell to less than DKK 130 per month. The share of high-risk players also declined over the year.
Competitive pressure persists
The record bottom line masks structural headwinds. Competition from international operators holding Danish licences continues to erode Danske Spil’s share of the online casino and sports betting segments, the areas where the operator faces the most direct commercial challenge.
Unlicensed activity also remains a concern. The Spillemyndigheden blocked 162 betting sites via court proceedings in 2024 for operating without a licence, according to its annual report on illegal gambling — a figure that stood at zero in 2017, illustrating the scale of the unlicensed market’s expansion over that period.
Alongside Nordic peers navigating similar structural shifts — including Veikkaus, which reported a 2.4% revenue decline in FY2025 ahead of Finland’s market liberalisation — Danske Spil’s lottery-anchored model has provided insulation that purely commercial operators lack.
