Fanatics enters prediction markets

Fanatics, the US sports betting company, will launch its own prediction markets platform in the coming weeks, CEO Michael Rubin announced in a recent CNBC interview.

The new product will be introduced through a partnership with cryptocurrency platform Crypto.com. Prediction markets allow users to wager on the outcomes of real-world events across sports, entertainment, and other sectors.

Rubin expressed surprise about regulatory loopholes enabling prediction markets to operate in many U.S. states.

“Fantasy players, prediction markets, sweepstake casinos… I didn’t think any of these things would still be going, but I was wrong,” Rubin said. “So, what do we do? We adapt, we build, and we’re launching our predictions business in the next couple of weeks, and we’re excited about it.”

Fanatics’ US market performance and reach

Fanatics has rapidly expanded its market presence in the US since acquiring PointsBet’s US operations in 2024 for $225 million. This acquisition granted it licences in 20 states, covering approximately 95% of the American online sports betting market.

While the company’s total revenue is projected at around $9 billion in 2025, the Sportsbook and Gaming division currently contributes only about $300 million, which is roughly 3% of total revenue.

The company’s comprehensive strategy integrates sports betting with merchandise and collectibles, supported by exclusive partnerships with major leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Fanatics is also expanding into online casinos in several key states.

Crypto.com is on a roll

This launch marks a strategic attempt by Fanatics to grow its footprint from its current licences in 23 U.S. states into all 50. The partnership with Crypto.com is expected to provide the technological infrastructure needed for the platform.

Crypto.com has been busy expanding prediction markets through similar deals with other sports and social platforms throughout 2025.

The company operates a CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange, Crypto.com Derivatives North America (CDNA), which enables the offering of event contracts (tradable contracts tied to specific event outcomes). This exchange supports both traditional fiat and cryptocurrency funding methods, accepting over 350 crypto tokens converted directly to USD for trading.

Earlier announced partnerships include:

  • Hollywood.com: In early November 2025, Crypto.com partnered with Hollywood.com to launch an entertainment-focused prediction market featuring movies, awards, TV shows, and music events. This offers entertainment fans a federally compliant way to trade event contracts with real-time price updates.
  • Underdog: Crypto.com teamed with sports gaming firm Underdog to offer sports prediction markets across 16 U.S. states, covering major leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and college football. The deal leverages Underdog’s platform and Crypto.com’s regulatory infrastructure to provide an alternative to traditional sportsbooks.
  • MyPrize: A social gaming platform with over one million users globally, MyPrize partnered with Crypto.com to integrate prediction markets for sports, politics, cryptocurrency, and more, enhancing social livestreaming and interactive content.

Competition heats up with FanDuel and DraftKings

Fanatics joins leading operators like FanDuel and DraftKings, which have recently announced the launch of their own prediction market offerings. These leading sports betting companies are leveraging event contracts that let customers bet on specific outcomes, such as sports results or entertainment awards.

These two major players have pulled out of Nevada and left the American Gaming Association (AGA) due to a conflict of interest with their plans to pursue federally regulated sports event contracts. Notably, Fanatics is still listed on the AGA’s website as a member.

Industry and regulatory context

The launch is notable amid growing interest in blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies within betting markets. These technologies offer secure, transparent, and faster transaction capabilities, which match user expectations in this evolving sector.

While some regulatory uncertainty remains over prediction market legality across U.S. states, Fanatics is optimistic about navigating these challenges. The company anticipates expanding access over time and evolving its product suite with changing market dynamics.

What’s next for Fanatics and the sector

Fanatics’ prediction markets platform may reshape sports betting competition with new technology and product diversity. The move also signals wider industry shifts towards crypto-enabled gaming and interactive event wagering.

With major operators like Fanatics, FanDuel, and DraftKings pursuing prediction markets, investors, regulators, and operators will closely watch developments. The growing popularity of prediction markets for various events makes this an important frontier for iGaming innovation and regulation.
