GRAF joins SBC’s African Gaming Forum push
SBC and GRAF have partnered to strengthen regulatory dialogue across Africa's gaming markets, linking events in Maputo and Lisbon.
Land-based gambling is legal and regulated in Botswana under the Gambling Act of 2012. The Botswana Gambling Authority licenses casinos, sports betting, lotteries, and gaming machines.
Online gambling remains unregulated—neither explicitly legal nor prohibited. No penalties exist for players using offshore sites, and no online licenses have been issued domestically.
In 2024, the Authority issued 16 new gaming licenses for land-based operations. The Authority is updating its regulatory approach for 2026, including proposals for a central electronic monitoring system and enhanced digital gambling safeguards.
Follow regulatory modernization efforts, potential online gambling framework development, enforcement against unlicensed influencer promotions, and the National Responsible Gambling Programme’s progress.
